Welcome!

Our main interests:

  • Metocean and response-based design conditions
  • Hydrodynamics and fluid-structure interaction
  • Probability and extreme values
  • Structural reliability and risk
  • Ultimate strength and collapse

Our objectives are to improve structural design by reducing cost and increasing safety and to make sound assessments of existing installations.

Clients and sponsors include Shell, BP, Woodside, Atkins, the United Kingdom’s Health and Safety Executive, various North Sea operators, Marathon, the Oceanographic Company of the Netherlands, the European Commission and several JIPs. Our work ranges from research to application:

  • the reliability analysis of FLNG barges during installation
  • the reliability analysis of jacket platforms including wave-in-deck forces, structural and foundation uncertainty
  • dynamic analysis of floating structures
  • long-term response analysis and derivation of metocean design criteria for fixed and floating structures
  • reliability based load factors
  • the ‘ringing’ of gravity structures
  • random waves, design waves and non-linear wave crest statistics
  • non-linear ultimate strength assessment
  • we are the originators of ‘NewWave’, the ‘LSM’ and pioneers of the application of ‘response-based design’, ultimate strength and other new methods in ocean engineering
  • we have served in the development of the ISO codes for offshore structures
  • we have given courses in offshore structures, decision-making and metocean
  • and we have been successful in the role of expert witness

We like solving problems.
